The Put-Together Get-Together Starter Kit

The doorbell rings. You're still in a towel.

A hosting plan that remembers you need to get ready, too.

The food is almost ready. The house is mostly ready. You? Not even close. Get a free hosting checklist that makes room for the person doing the hosting, too.

Put the shower on the list. You are part of the gathering, too.

Inside your checklist

  • The day before: give tomorrow a head start
  • Earlier that day: move the work forward
  • Protect the getting-yourself-ready part
  • If the doorbell beats you to it

“I built it for you because I needed it too.”

A thoughtful place for the details of real-life hosting, from Alexis Hughes-Williams, founder of Place & Plenty.

Three ways to leave yourself a little breathing room

A dinner with a real stopping point

Choose a menu you can partly prepare ahead. Pick a time to hand off the last jobs and get yourself ready, with a buffer before guests arrive.

Drinks and something simple

A get-together does not have to become a dinner party. Set up a few snacks and a place for drinks, and tell guests what to expect.

A shared meal, with shared work

Ask friends to bring specific dishes and give a co-host a clear welcome job. Being the host does not mean doing every last thing yourself.
